Jay-Z NBA Investigation Underway, Rep Confirms

What appeared to be a showing of support for the Kentucky Wildcats following a NCAA tournament win last weekend has now officially sparked an NBA investigation for rap mogul Jay-Z.

While initially being as speculation, a spokesperson has now confirmed the investigation is underway.
An NBA spokesman confirms that the league is investigating Jay-Z's presence in Kentucky's locker room after the Wildcats clinched a Final Four berth. The rapper visited the players after their victory over North Carolina on Sunday at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J, home of the Nets. Jay-Z is a part-owner of the team and attended the Nets' 120-116 loss at New York on Wednesday. (Billboard)
Jay's ownership in the New Jersey Nets restricts his distance with ineligible NBA draft players.
NBA rules prohibit team personnel from having contact with players who are not yet draft eligible, and spokesman Tim Frank told the Associated Press the league is looking into it. The investigation was first reported by CBSSports.com. (Daily News)
Despite the investigation, reports speculate Young Hov will get off easy.
Based on precedents, the expectation is the Nets will avoid serious punishment. In 2007, the Celtics were fined $30,000 after GM Danny Ainge sat next to Kevin Durant's mother during the Big 12 tournament. The league ruled it was "excessive contact." In August, the Knicks were forced to end a consultant contract with Isiah Thomas because he's the head coach at Florida International University. The Knicks weren't punished further, although it's believed Thomas still counsels owner Jim Dolan. In other words, it's likely to be a slap on the wrist for the Nets and a warning to Jay-Z to not do it again. The league may also take under consideration that Jay-Z has little to do with the Nets' basketball operations. (New York Daily News)
New York radio host DJ Clue poked fun at Jay's speculated fine.
"Shout to my Boy @S_C_ aka Mark Cubans long lost cousin "Dark Cuban" ! He's about to receive his 1st NBA Fine! Congratz !!!," Clue tweeted Thursday (March 31). (DJ Clue's Twitter)

Rihanna Reveals Sexual Fantasies, "I Like To Be Spanked"

Grammy-winning singer Rihanna opens up about her sexual fantasies and appreciating a male lover who knows how to take charge under the sheets in the new issue of Rolling Stone.

Based on excerpts from her feature, RiRi does not hold back when it comes to explicit topics.
"Being submissive in the bedroom is really fun. You get to be a little lady, to have somebody be macho and in charge of your sh*t. That's fun to me...I like to be spanked. Being tied up is fun. I like to keep it spontaneous. Sometimes whips and chains can be overly planned - you gotta stop, get the whip from the drawer downstairs. I'd rather have him use his hands." (Rolling Stone)
She also reflected on the impact of child abuse on her current sexual appetite.
"I think I'm a bit masochistic and I did not realize it until recently. I think that is common in people who witnessed abuse in their childhood." (Rolling Stone)

Rick Ross Calls Himself Unstoppable, "I'm Going To Call The Shots As Long As I Want"

Southern rapper Rick Ross proclaims his greatness and inability to be defeated in the new issue of RESPECT magazine.

Asked about maintaining credibility despite past employment as a corrections officer, Ross said his ability to fend off attacks on his image makes him unstoppable.
"That's why I'm still here, stronger than ever, richer than ever, bigger than ever," Ross said in an interview with Elliott Wilson. "I'm going to call the shots as long as I want to. That's the difference between [me and] other n*ggas who talk about it. Who really be about it? Who really bringing money to the table for n*ggas? Who really bawsed it up, who really putting their egos to the side and wanna see their partners win? Who really wanna see their lil' homies have a good Christmas? That's what really separates the true bosses, you know what I mean?" (RESPECT)
Ross' C.O. history emerged online with leaked documents in the summer of 2008.
It's been confirmed that Ross worked as a prison guard from December 1995 until June 1997 at the South Florida Reception Center in Dade County, despite denials by the rapper. He was reportedly earning a salary of $25,794.34 upon his departure. (The Smoking Gun)
After back-and-forth disses between 50 Cent and Ross, G-Unit's Tony Yayo weighed in on his camp hurting the "Boss'" image.
"I started looking at it like we beat him and he didn't even know he was beat," Yayo explained in a May 2009 interview. "You had the sex tape out there and all that. I felt like he lost already...To me, he didn't win the battle because his baby's mother was on the Internet having sex with some other guy. I feel like when Fif stopped answering him, it got kind of boring...I feel like we ruined Rick Ross' career. I mean, you could have the No. 1 record in the country, but he had a 68 percent drop in the next week. Nobody likes a cop. The guy's a cop at the end of the day. People always try to diss G-Unit but you got a C.O. right in front of your face. And he admitted that he was the guy in the picture. I'm not gonna beef with police. There's no winning with that. He's a cop." (Hip Hop Game)

Wiz Khalifa On Amber Rose Love Fixation, "I'm The Kind Of Guy Who Knows When I'm Winning"

Rapper Wiz Khalifa delved into his publicized relationship with model Amber Rose and why their love for one another is deeper than the media thinks.

According to Khalifa, he feels their relationship has a shot at going far.
"It's pretty serious. I really, really dig her," Wiz told radio personality Angie Martinez Wednesday (March 30). "People think it's an image thing and that we're just doing it to be crazy, but like, for real, for real, it's just two great people meeting at a good time. We just like to crack jokes and stuff like that. She's very down to earth, she's very realistic, and that's the way that I am. Just seeing stuff for what it is and not being blinded by the lights...I'ma be with her. That's why we wanted to give it to the world. But it's realistic. It's nothing that we're just beefing up or just doing for anybody's eyes. It's real. She's a great girl. I really, really am into her...I'm the kind of guy who knows when I'm winning, no Charlie Sheen intended. When you won, you don't gotta keep trying to do stuff that's gonna mess it up." (Hot 97)
Intimate photos of Wiz and Rose appear in the latest issue of FADER magazine.
For FADER Issue #72 we traveled to Los Angeles and spent the better part of a week with Wiz Khalifa. After, we emerged from a cloud of one-billion joints with a story about what it means to become famous now, and a lot of incredible images. Relatively new FADER photographer Ross Mantle shot Wiz in the center of a music video shoot and documented some of the first days of his relationship with Amber Rose. Mantle said, "He's pretty down to earth. I don't know if he's going to get a head about him later on, but he has a bit of a young ego. I think to be in the position he's in you have to have something like that to begin with." (The FADER)

Rihanna Cuts Off Chris Brown Reunion Dreams, "We Don't Have To Talk Ever Again In My Life"

Grammy-winning singer Rihanna opens up about moving past ex-boyfriend/singer Chris Brown and why the public should retire any reunion dreams in the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine.

Within the feature, RiRi reveals her initial struggles with keeping a straight face following their publicized domestic dispute in February 2009.
"I put my guard up so hard ... I didn't want people to see me cry. I didn't want people to feel bad for me. It was a very vulnerable time in my life, and I refused to let that be the image. I wanted them to see me as, 'I'm fine, I'm tough.' I put that up until it felt real." (Rolling Stone)
She also stressed the lack of motivation of trying to hook back up but her will to modify a court-issued restraining order against him.
"We don't have to talk ever again in my life," Rihanna explains. "I just didn't want to make it more difficult for him professionally. What he did was a personal thing -- it had nothing to do with his career. Saying he has to be 100 feet away from me, he can't perform at awards shows -- that definitely made it difficult for him ... But you can never please people. One minute, I'm being too hard, and the next minute, I'm a fool because I'm not being hard enough." (Rolling Stone)

Jim Jones Dips Outta Police Custody, "Every Officer In There Is A Gentleman"

Dipset's Jim Jones has been released from police custody hours after making headlines for being arrested in New York City on an alleged suspended license charge.

Writing on his Twitter page, "Capo" gave fans a brief post-arrest update.
"From th pens to th video shoot to th air port chitown here we come #CAPO #April,5th #nomatterwhat," he tweeted Wednesday (March 30) evening.
"Wht I miss when I was gone lol"
"Thnk u to everybody for makin th #EVERYBODYJONES video happen we pulled it off @Nyemiah_Supreme lookin good kiddo #CAPO #April,5th" (Jim Jones' Twitter)
Following his arrest, Jones was issued a ticket for the suspended license.
After a few hours in the 1st Precinct stationhouse, cops issued the "We Fly High" rapper a desk appearance ticket and released him, police said. "I'm just an entertainer trying to make a living," the rapper told the Daily News as he walked out. Jones said New York's Finest were polite. "They showed me total respect," he said. "Every officer in there is a gentleman." (New York Daily News)

Lil Wayne Tunes Out Drake & Nicki Minaj, "I Never Heard [Their] Album"

Young Money leader Lil Wayne turned heads during an interview this week after revealing he has yet to hear Nicki Minaj or Drake's platinum-selling albums.

Despite both artists looking to Wayne for guidance, Weezy said he has yet to find the time to sit down and give their records a thorough listen.
Lil Wayne delivered a shocker to Angie Martinez when he revealed that he hasn't heard Drake or Nicki Minaj's platinum-selling albums in full. "I never heard Drake's album. I never heard Nicki's album," he told the Hot 97 personality. "I swear to God. I work too hard." The news may not come as such a surprise to his Young Money protégés. "They would probably guess it. I'm always focused on something and it captures my whole attention, I can't do nothing else," he added, making sure not to offend them. "Drake and Nick, don't take that no kinda way." (Rap-Up)
Last September, Minaj revealed that she did not get a chance to inform Wayne of her album title before the fans.
"He said that people were writing him in jail saying, 'Oh, we loved [Drake's] Thank Me Later and we can't wait for Pink Friday.' So he said he was looking at the letters like, 'What the h*ll is Pink Friday? Because I didn't even tell him my album name and stuff and he found out in jail because of like, the fans writing him letters. He was like, 'OK Nick, that's the name of your album?' And we were just having a great conversation and I stayed there for like, two hours and then broke out. But thank God he'll be back November 4th." (Hot 97)
Minaj previously said Wayne would not have a huge influence on the LP.
"He really hasn't had any involvement on it. But to be honest, the album doesn't sound like Wayne. I mean, he's my biggest influence, but it doesn't sound like Wayne's stuff. It sounds like Nicki." (Complex)
Prior to Drake's debut selling 447,000 copies in its first-week, Wayne said he hoped the LP could push out two million units in seven days.
"A million in a week? I need him to do more than Tha Carter III," Weezy adds of his breakthrough album, which sold more than 1 million copies in its debut week. "Like 2 million in the first week. I need him to do 2 million the first week, straight up." (MTV)

Rick Ross Revisits 50 Cent Feud, "The Mob Bosses Always Get Whacked At The End"

Speaking with renowned rap journalist Elliott Wilson, Ross justified going after the "bully" in 2009.
"It boiled down to what really was going on. It wasn't nothing at the time that was personal against 50 Cent, but he was attacking people, and began attacking people closer and closer to me, to a point where I had to make a decision. I felt I was gonna be next on that list. So I took the offensive." (RESPECT)
Ricky Rozay also pointed out why he struck first before allowing 50 an opportunity to get at him on wax.
"N*ggas gotta study history. The mob bosses always get whacked at the end. Sometimes by someone of lesser value, of lesser importance, you feel me? So, on that note, you gotta understand there's always n*ggas that's willing to make that sacrifice on some real sh*t. When you really step out there, and you want to get into some sh*t, you've got to be on your A-game. My goal is to deliver hit records. But don't get it mistaken, we are the muscle--we are the muscle." (RESPECT)
Last summer, Ross spoke on moving past his issues with 50.
"That's the beauty of art," Ross told us. "You can take it and channel it any way you want to. Of course, I realize I put a lot of pollution out there as well that I wouldn't this year. That was a part of me learning. I'll forever be attracted to some form or fashion of war. I feel it's competitive but at the same time, I'm focused on my numbers. I'm focused on my business. I'm focused on my brand. I wanna see other things blossom around me, versus back-and-forth with nothing. For the most part, I feel when you prioritize your business, that's the result -- that's the advice I've been given for so long. I'm trying it out." (MTV)
A month prior, 50 said he never reached out to form a truce with Ross.
"I never had a conversation with him. My focus shifted during that record. A lot of times, earlier in my career, I was competing with artists because that was what I loved about hip-hop: The idea that battling someone was necessary to defend your spot and you had to take on all challengers -- so I did that constantly. No one thinks that way now and everyone looks at me like I'm the Broad Street Bully. The younger kids coming up missed that time frame, and even the conscious rap is gone too. The stuff that Common Sense and Talib Kweli and Mos Def were rhyming about. What was socially conscious and responsible about the music has been replaced by hipster kids in skinny jeans and mohawks. Of course, that's always been around, but it was usually confined to the Village. Artists have always had the opportunity to influence the culture, but now it's the other way around: They're trying to look like their audience to attract their audience. Now you can't tell the difference between a Led Zeppelin fan and a hip-hop fan." (Los Angeles Times)

Jim Jones Arrested In New York City

Dipset's Jim Jones was reportedly arrested Wednesday (March 30) in New York City for a driving violation.

While details are still emerging, Jones is currently in police custody.
Rapper Jim Jones was arrested in New York City ... TMZ has learned. Jones was arrested today for driving on a suspended license. We're told Jones is still in custody. Story developing... (TMZ)
In 2009, Jones was arrested while driving around northern New Jersey.
Jones was driving his 2007 black Bentley when a Teaneck police officer noticed he was missing a front license plate, said police Capt. Keith Richter. After police stopped Jones around 12:10 a.m., they found the rapper had an outstanding warrant out of Paterson and arrested him. Richter confirmed Jones, who provided a Newark home address, paid $120 and was released. Paterson Police Lt. Donald Giaquinto said the warrant was for unpaid motor vehicle tickets. (North Jersey)
Jones also resorted to Twittering while the arrest was taking place.
"I decide to drive by myself let's see how this plays out," he wrote unmodified prior to the arrest. "Misses officer let me go the funny part was watching them have to count all the money in my pocket lol I must say they were very cool...And it was a punk ass warrant from 2005 for 120 dollars...Make sure you pay old tickets." Lil Wayne to Retire At 35 ????

Fans have about seven more years to hear Lil Wayne. The New Orleans bred rap superstar appeared on Hot 97 this afternoon, and during the interview with Angie Martinez, Weezy said he plans on retiring at 35.

Citing his intense work schedule, the Grammy-Award winning artist stated that although he will give it all up at such a young age, he’s dedicated all his time so far to his career. “That’s why retiring at 35, that’s a life lived, because this music thing is my life,” he said. “So retiring at 35 would be enough.”

“This is a solid plan, and I stick with my plans,” he added, saying that he wants to spend to be a father to his four kids once he leaves the rap game.

During the Q&A Wayne also said that he because he has been so busy working on his upcoming album, Tha Carter IV, (set for May 16), he surprisingly still hasn’t had a chance to hear his Young Money artists Nicki Minaj or Drake’s albums in full. “I’m always focused on something and it captures my whole attention,” he explained, “I can’t do nothing else. “

Asked if he feels any competition with his signees, he replied, “I want them to do way betrer than I do [actually]. I get paid for that,” he joked. “I just wish them the best.”
Lil Wayne will be at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, PA tomorrow with Nicki, Rick Ross and Travis Barker as part of his I Am Still Music Tour. —Elan Mancini

Wiz Khalifa sheds tears at NYC show

If Wiz Khalifa gets his way, yesterday (March 29) will forever be known as March Taylor-Ninth, 2011. And he’s been getting his way recently.

Yesterday was indeed a big day for the Taylor Gang’s beloved leader, as Wiz both released his debut album on Atlantic Records, Rolling Papers, and rocked a sold out show at New York’s Roseland Ballroom.

XXL Freshman and fellow Rostrum Records artist Mac Miller warmed up the crowd for Khalifa, performing cuts from August 2010′s K.I.D.S. as well as his recent Best Day Ever, which dropped earlier this month. Older favorites like “Nikes On My Feet” and “Knock Knock” were mixed in with more recent “Oy Vey” and “Donald Trump.” Mac’s EP, On and On and Beyond, hit iTunes yesterday.

The few thousand in attendance brought their already high energy to an elevated level when Wiz hit the stage shortly after 10 p.m. Kicking his set off with “Phone Numbers” from Cabin Fever, along with special guest Trae Tha Truth, the star of the show would spend the next hour running through standouts from that recent mixtape as well as Kush & Orange Juice and Rolling Papers.

Typically upbeat, the Pittsburgh native was particularly elated and moved by the support of his fans on this night, as he clearly recognized what a big moment the album release was for his career. After showing love to both old fans and new, Wiz actually broke into tears. “I’m comfortable with this shit,” he said of bearing his sole and shedding tears. “I don’t give a fuck.”

Young Khalifa did plenty of records from his latest project, including “The Race,” “On My Level” and “Rooftops,” but also took it a little further back with Kush & Orange Juice‘s “Mesmerized” and “Up.” The set rounded out with former No. 1 hit “Black and Yellow,” after which Wiz again thanked his fans and record labels, and triumphantly and fittingly headed off stage to the Lex Luger producer “Taylor Gang.” —Adam Fleischer

Gucci Mane Talks Ice Cream Tattoo, Upcoming Projects

Gucci Mane Talks Ice Cream Tattoo, Upcoming Projects

After a rough 2010, Gucci Mane tells Billboard magazine about overcoming his problems through music and the "Ice Cream Man" album named after his face tattoo.
In 2010, Gucci Mane was arrested twice—once for allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road and again during a raid on his protĂ©gĂ© Waka Flocka Flame’s house. The charges in the moving vehicle violation case were eventually dropped, but Gucci found himself in custody. Gucci Mane eventually entered a plea of mental incompetency for his legal issues, and spent a stint in a Georgia mental institution. He emerged with new music, which he said is reflective of his experiences.

“When I was going through all the things I was going through…I just stayed in the studio,” Gucci told Jason Lipshutz of Billboard. “It definitely helped me. The studio is where I go to just let everything out. I can go and just speak my feelings and what’s on my mind—just get it off my chest.”

Upon his return, most were more interested in what was on Gucci’s right cheek—a large tattoo featuring three ice cream scoops with that generate red lightening bolts.

“Everybody wants to know why I got the tattoo, did it hurt...what it means,” Gucci added. “I jut tell them it’s my trademark. It represents being the coldest in the game.”

While Gucci’s boast is open to interpretation, the soft-serve tattoo sporting rapper did move 25,000 retail copies of what Warner/Asylum is calling the “soft-release” of his The Return of Mr. Zone 6 mixtape. And in the near future, Gucci says more of his time in the studio and the tattoo parlor will manfest itself on wax. In addition to a Ferrari Boys album with Waka Flocka Flame, Shawty Redd and FATBOI, Gucci will co-star in a movie with the original Ice Cream Man, Master P. He also says he wants to name his upcoming album The Ice Cream Man.

Jay-Z Subject of NBA Investigation

Jay-Z's recent visit to the Kentucky Wildcats locker room has started an investigation.
On Sunday March 27th the Kentucky Wildcats defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels in an Elite Eight match up between two legendary programs. Following the win at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey,

Jay-Z visited the locker room to congratulate the winning team.
There wasn't a problem with Jay-Z the rapper being in the locker room, but it is against NBA policy for Nets minority owner Shawn Carter to be there. NBA personnel are prohibited from being in contact with amateur players until they have declared for the draft. The high-powered Wildcats have a likely pair of lottery picks on their roster as well.

It is believed that it is Jay's relationship with basketball rainmaker William Wesley that led to him being in the room. Wesley, also known as Worldwide Wes, also has a relationship with Kentucky coach and former Nets coach John Calipari. Based on past infractions around the league, Jay-Z will likely face a small fine.

Lil B Signs Tour Deal With Live Nation

After establishing a viral presence, the "Based God" Lil B, signs an unprecedented regional deal with touring giant, Live Nation.

San Francisco Weekly reports Lil B has signed a tour deal with Live Nation for a group of shows around the East Coast and the Midwest. The Based God is no stranger to the East, having previously performed at Santo’s Party House. He also made his first appearance in Atlanta last year, but this deal will apparently also cover some uncharted territory as well.

“It's for sure the first [Bay Area] show of this new era of people being aware of Lil B,” Sebastian Demian, Lil B’s manager, told SF Weekly. “We hope to take it all over the country and spread the message of based thinking. [He made] over 100 MySpace pages…over 100 videos on YouTube last year. Now we'll do over 100 shows.”

Demian says representatives from Live Nation couldn’t remember making a similar agreement before. Lil B signed a deal with Amalgam digital in 2010, but most artists signed to Live Nation touring deals are usually connected to a major label. While nothing is official, Demian added that he and Lil B are in talks with several labels.

Jim Jones' Wifey On Marriage Proposal, "Am I Rushing It?"

"Love & Hip-Hop" reality series star Chrissy Lampkin has come forward to discuss her marriage proposal to boyfriend/rapper Jim Jones on television, and the future their union holds.

While they have yet to officially tie the knot, Chrissy believes marriage is still down the road.
"I did it to let him know that I love him enough and I am proud and happy enough to display that to the world," Lampkin explained in an interview. "That's what that's about. Eventually, we will get married. Am I rushing it? No. Of course people have opinions about me asking him to marry me, but I felt it was the right thing to do. I love him enough and I wanted to share that. It's how I felt and what I wanted. You need to know what you're doing with your life. You need to have direction. If that thing doesn't happen the traditional way, it still needs to happen. So why waste your time? I figured I would cut to the chase. What are we waiting for? We talk about it a lot, so it's not like it was something that wasn't going to happen. I felt comfortable enough to ask him. It's not like it was something that was never talked about and I jumped out the window with it. I knew that it was something we both wanted. I didn't mind being the first one to step up. We've been together almost seven years." (Necole Bitchie)

Foxy Brown's Caribbean Cruise Disaster Explained, "Foxy Went Completely Ballistic"

More details surrounding rapper Foxy Brown's alleged tantrum aboard a Caribbean cruise with radio host veteran Tom Joyner this month have emerged.

According to new reports, Foxy's alleged removal from a Royal Caribbean cruise was the result of a nail appointment complication.
Passengers on the cruise tell TMZ, Foxy set up a nail appointment on the cruise ship last Monday -- a day after the cruise took off -- and showed up three hours late. We're told the people at the salon couldn't accommodate her when she rolled around -- and Foxy went completely ballistic. According to sources, security removed her from the salon and sent her back to her room -- where she remained under supervision until Wednesday ... when the ship dropped anchor somewhere in the Cayman Islands ... and authorities kicked her off. We're told Foxy -- who performed on board the day before the incident -- was then escorted to an airport and flown home. (TMZ)

Lil Wayne Gets Pressed, "The Most Bizarre Thing I've Read About Myself Is..."

Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne recently opened up about how he deals with the media and the press he receives from various outlets.

According to Wayne, he refrains from reading news updates about himself unless it involves an interview he has done.
"I don't think I've ever Googled myself. [laughs] But I do read some things that . . . I mean, if I know that I was with an interviewer and I kind of figure that he or she got something bad or something good from the interview, then I'll read the piece when it comes out. But other than that, I'd have to have a reason to read it -and, usually, I don't have a reason. So, no, I don't really read too much, because I know you know that they word things the way they want to word them when they put it on paper... The most bizarre thing I've ever read about myself is that I was dead. That was kind of weird to read that I'm dead-mostly because I was reading it." (Interview Magazine)
No stranger to negative press, Wayne recently denied a report claiming he made disrespectful comments toward a darker-skinned woman in Miami earlier this year.
"Rumors or as dumb as the people who believe them. Y'all know I didn't say that sh*t!!!!!," Wayne tweeted Thursday (January 6). (Lil Wayne's Twitter)
Wayne also battled a past rumor claiming he was expecting another child with Young Money member Shanell aka SNL.
"That's a rumor, sweetheart," he said. "No, it's never been a personal thing. As far as us being friends, yeah. That's my friend. Shanell is a great artist and that's it, period. She's a Young Money great artist. I heard a rumor that she was pregnant from me. How could that be? We've never had sex. How could she be pregnant from me? You've got to have sex to be pregnant. That's one of the things you have to do. I don't understand how people's brains work. You know? I'm a really big person. I'm a real superstar. I'm not afraid to tell you or nobody else, you know? I die every week [according to the rumor mill]. I'm in jail right now [according to the rumors]. No, [the questions] bothers you, because you have to actually think if it's true or not and come sit down and ask this dumb a** sh*t. I know you have to feel stupid, because it's like me sitting here and looking at your [brown] hair and asking you, 'Since you dyed your hair green, how do you feel?' Your hair obviously isn't green." Beyonce’s Father Comments on Management Split

We reported yesterday that Bey has split ties with longtime manager Mathew Knowles (aka her father). Today Mathew spoke out about the split, revealing the reason, what to expect and who else was dropped in the process. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.
@MarisaMendez

“The decision for BeyoncĂ© and Music World Entertainment to part was mutual. We did great things together, and I know that she will continue to conquer new territories in music and entertainment. Currently, I am very focused on the tremendous investment that our record label has made in the gospel/inspirational genre of music and on our supremely talented roster of artists, including Trin-i-tee 5:7, Brian Courtney Wilson, Juanita Bynum, Micah Stampley, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Pastor Rudy and others.
Music World will continue its partnership with Sony with Destiny’s Child and UK female group From Above, as well as management. We will also continue to develop the Music World family of labels: Music World Country/Compadre, Music World Kids and Music World Music. In Music World’s repositioning it will not continue its label/management role with Columbia/Sony artist Tiffany Evans.
Business is business and family is family. I love my daughter and am very proud of who she is and all that she has achieved. I look forward to her continued great success.”

E-40 Talks Working With Snoop Dogg, Embracing New Artists

E-40 Talks Working With Snoop Dogg, Embracing New Artists

For the latest pair of "Revenue Retrievin'" albums E-40 keeps it familiar with Snoop while also embracing a new generation of emcees.

During a career that has spanned nearly 17 years, E-40 now finds himself in an ambassador role for both the Bay Area and Hip Hop in general. While on the set of Snoop Dogg’s “My Fuc’n House” video, which also features Young Jeezy, 40 Water observed how things have come full circle. His latest albums Revenue Retrievin’: Overtime Shift and Revenue Retrievin’: Graveyard Shift find him embracing artists that may not be known to the casual Hip Hop fan, and 40 says that it’s no coincidence.

“Independent music is taking over right now, and a lot of people want to exclude the up and coming artists,” E-40 said. “But I’m gonna include the up and coming artists and producers.”

The talk of newer artists may have struck a nerve as E-40 reflected on his 1994 debut, Federal, and how he later befriended another legendary West Coast emcee who was also making his solo debut around the same time.

“Years ago Snoop told me, ‘We fuck with y’all,’” E-40 added. “So we’re all connected, and years later we’ve all bonded. Here we is, years later, putting together this classic music.”

Snoop Dogg added that the pair’s longevity can be attributed to being authentic and original at a time when many artists prefer to copy the most popular current trend. Snoop and E-40’s bond apparently goes beyond music, as 40 showed a older picture of Snoop, explaining how the whole Dogg Pound came to Vallejo to meet him years ago.

“Whether I got an album out or not, I’m gonna always bang some 40,” Snoop added. “We’ve always been down with each other, and we just love the fact that we’re still able to do it. Whenever he calls me, I’m there for him and the feeling is mutual.”

Wiz Khalifa Talks About Curren$y's Move To Warner, "Rolling Papers" Lyrical Moments

Wiz Khalifa Talks About Curren$y's Move To Warner,

Exclusive: Taylor Gang's finest talks about his homie going to his former label, and shares thoughts on if Rostrum Records can do for Pittsburgh what Cash Money did for New Orleans.

Today, Wiz Khalifa released his major label debut Rolling Papers. Among the guests on the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania emcee's anticipated release is Curren$y, a close friend and industry mentor who appears on "Rooftops" . Recently, HipHopDX spoke with Wiz at Philadelphia's Wired 96.5 FM studios about Curren$y, who just signed with Warner Brothers, a place that was home to Khalifa for over two years, despite not releasing a full-length from the rapper. Asked if he had any concern for Spitta's move, Wiz explained, "When I heard about [Curren$y signing to Warner Brothers Records], I told him congratulations. I know they've got new people over [at Warner]. That's one thing. And I rock with Curren$y; that's my people, regardless of what situation he's in or what he's doin'. I always want to see him do good. And I know, him as a person, he's not gonna set himself up for failure. So I just trust him with that." Although Wiz and Warner were never able to achieve much success together outside of hit single "Say Yeah" , that has little to do with Curren$y. "Even if it was a bad situation, he'd still be my man."

In the last year, Wiz Khalifa has ascended the ranks from a perceived rookie to one of Hip Hop's biggest stars. In December of last year, Wiz and Rostrum Records label-mate Mac Miller performed two sold out shows at Pittsburgh's newly-opened Stage AE, an American Eagle-backed venue on the city's North Shore. Asked about the impact of selling out a large venue back-to-back nights after years of opening for touring acts in his city, Wiz noted, "It was a big deal opening for Nas [at University of Pittsburgh in 2007], and it's a big deal doing my thing [as a headliner] at the Stage AE. When we do Mellon Arena, it's gonna be a big thing...when we do Starlake Ampitheater, it's gonna be bigger and bigger. I'm just glad that my fans and everybody who supported me from the beginning, we all get to grow together."

Looking back at his rise, Wiz was also asked about lyrical moments within Rolling Papers. While present hit single "Roll Up" might be more Pop than some Taylor Gang fans favor, Wiz maintains that he still busts down bars on his Atlantic Records project. "'The Race' is definitely a lyrical moment, 'Star of The Show'...I got a lot of different stuff when I go deep and say different things, but a lot of my growth and development as an artist has been taking things that are really complex and make them seem simple. So the way that I say things on [Rolling Papers] might come across as really easy to listen to, but if you dig deep or go back, I want people to find [my lyricism too]."

Lastly, with fellow DXnext alum and label-mate Mac Miller rising within Hip Hop, and also releasing digital EP On & On today, Wiz was asked if Rostrum Records can do for the Steel City what Ruthless Records did for Compton, or what No Limit and Cash Money Records afforded New Orleans. "I think Rostrum can be a vehicle for great music, period. [Rostrum founder and CEO] Benjy [Grinberg] works really hard and he knows what's really important. He's not just trying to sign artists before they blow up. We work hands-on with everything, so it takes a lot of time and a lot of attention," said Wiz. As far as joining those aforementioned dynasties, the humble emcee said,"It can get to that point."

Cam'ron also experienced Dre's penchant for perfectionism: "He made me get out and do my verse over," he recalled. "He's real intricate. Basically, he was like, 'I want this kind of flow,' and he'll mumble it out," the slick-witted MC continued, explaining the process. "It was like, 'Yo, go do that again; it's terrible.'" (MTV)

Rick Ross Finds The Next Kanye West, "I See The Same Potential In..."

Burgeoning rap mogul Rick Ross has opened up about his newly signed Maybach Music Group artist Wale and why the Roc Nation emcee could become the next Kanye West.

According to Ricky Rozay, Wale's ability to tell stories and create allusions places him in Yeezy's league.
"After spending months of my summer working with Kanye, I learned and seen so many different visions and ideas come to light. I was there for 'Flashing Lights', when it was actually titled another title that me and Kanye went back and forth about. And when I think about Wale, I think about Kanye. And the kind of rhymes Wale has been laying down the last few months, since we been in the studio, I'm pretty sure there's gonna be a lot of similarities as far as the pictures that he paints," the Bawse continued. "Of course, Kanye is one of the greats of our time, but I see that same potential in Wale." (MTV)

Jay-Z Grand Slams Major League Victory Against Big Papi

Entertainment mogul Jay-Z has homered a major legal victory agqainst Boston Red Sox baseball star David "Big Papi" Ortiz relating to a 2010 copyright lawsuit involving Hov's 40/40 Club sports bar.

According to new reports, Jay has come to terms with the major league slugger.
Big Papi has buried the hatchet with rapper Jay-Z in a dispute over the name of their dueling nightclubs, court papers filed Monday say. The two were set to square off Tuesday in Manhattan Federal Court over use of the name 40/40, but the conference was cancelled at the last minute, the hip-hop giant's lawyer said. "The case has been settled in principle," said attorney Peter Raymond. "We have agreed on the outlines of a settlement and need to reduce it to writing." (New York Daily News)
They were initially set to face-off in court over the 40/40 Club brand this month.
Jay-Z and Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz will face off in court this month if they can't resolve their cybersquatting dispute. After three hours of negotiations yesterday, Manhattan federal Judge Richard Berman said it was clear that reps for both men "do not have the authority to settle" the East Coast rivalry. Jay-Z is suing Big Papi for using a Web site to promote his Dominican Republic nightclub, Forty Forty, which he calls a rip-off of his famed 40/40 Club. Neither side would say how much Jay-Z wants, but Ortiz's business manager, Mark Walker, called it "way too much." (New York Post)
