Curren$y Planning Five Projects for 2011

Spitta says planning five different releases for this year alone.
Since his 2009 debut This Ain't No Mixtape, rapper Curren$y has been consistent with dropping two retail releases a year. Now, with his EP with the Alchemist Covert Coup and his fifth full length album Muscle Car Chronicles already slated for this spring, Spitta told TheWellVersed.com that he plans two release at least five projects this year.

"I’d say about five projects," he said. "I used to put out mixtapes every month. So now three retail projects and a couple of mixtapes, that’s cool. Those free projects will hold everybody down so they can get used to my next series. Those same people want to support you. That’s why you have to show love with the free shit and they’ll go out and pick up the retail."

Spitta also talked about his upcoming fifth LP Muscle Car Chronicles, due out May 3 on BluRoc Records. He explained that this latest project, which he produced entirely by Sean O'Connell, was actually the first project he had begun working on when he first signed to Dame Dash's imprint.

"[Muscle Car Chronicles is] all the way different," he explained. "I recorded that before I even worked on Pilot Talk 1 & 2. That’s the first project I recorded when I started working with Dame Dash. When I started on that, Dame was still working on BlakRoc [with the Black Keys]…that’s actually how I ended up being homies with him. I put a verse on BlakRoc 2. He let me hear some of the music he was putting together. Some of it was to my liking so I began smashing records out for Muscle Car Chronicle."

Odd Future's Tyler The Creator Gets Wrecked, "Just Got Hit By A Car. F*ck"

While not going into full detail, Tyler continued to tweet following the incident.
"Just Got Hit By A Car. F*ck," he tweeted Monday (April 18) night. "F*ck That N*gga. My Wrist Hurt For Socking That N*gga Windows Out...I'm Over It...My F*cking Skateboard Got Ran Over. F*ck." (Tyler the Creator's Twitter)
Over the weekend, Odd Future performed at the annual Coachella festival in California.
Cult hip-hop group Odd Future created a security nightmare for staff at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival on Friday (15 Apr 11) when they continually jumped into the audience to crowd surf. The rap collective, also known as Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, drew one of the biggest audiences for an afternoon act on the first day of the Indio, California event, with fans spilling out of the tented area as they tried to catch a glimpse of the underground act. "I Thought Rick Ross Was A Fluke To Tell You The Truth"

According to P, Rozay's consistency has helped keep him afloat at releasing quality music.
"[Rap's] in a good place man. Any time you've got a whole bunch of competitors it only steps up the quality of the sh*t that's out there...Yeah. I like [Ross'] sh*t," P said in an interview. "At first, I thought Rick Ross was a fluke to tell you the truth, because when I first heard him I was like 'Who the f*ck is this dude man? Come on. You can't be serious. This dude is a fluke. One-hit wonder'. After a while he started proving himself. Then I started seeing consistency with him, and more and more, I was like 'Hold up. Ok, I'm starting to respect this dude now.' Now he's proved me wrong. He's not what I thought he was. That happens a lot. A lot of people won't talk about it though." (Complex)
P also weighed in on the comparison of Ross to the late Notorious B.I.G.
"I guess because he's a big, heavy-set, fat dude or whatever," Prodigy added. "Like, I don't know man. They talk about flashy things. I don't really know. That's the only comparison I see, is their weight. Lyrically Rick Ross is spitting some sh*t right now, but I mean, compared to Biggie there's just no comparison. You can't compare Biggie, nobody's Tupac. Those people are them, you're you. I don't really do that comparison sh*t. Be yourself." (Complex)
While locked up in 2009, P called out Ross through a collection a leaked letters.
"Now it's the slavery of our minds covertly," P writes. "There's people out there who get the chills when they hear Rick Ross, like he's something special. These are the kind of fools we're dealing with...I was just reading Vibe Magazine's 'Best Rapper Alive 2008' article...Vibe says 920,000 people voted for it. I would personally b*tch slap all 920,000 of these voters if given the opportunity." (Hip Hop Stan)

Talib Kweli, Freddie Gibbs & More On Lil B's "Gay" Album, "It's Just A Bunch Of White People Laughing At A N*gga"

Kweli believes Lil B is ultimately going to show off his true fan base with the controversial title.
"Immediately (upon hearing the hubbub) I'm like [now' that's a f*ckin' social experiment, if I've ever heard one," Kweli said. "Look I don't care who you sleep with at the end of the day. I don't care if Lil B's gay or not. It doesn't change my life in any way, but for him to name his album I'm Gay, issues such a challenge to his fans. I'm not sure if it's brilliant or not, but what he did with that, in one fell swoop, was challenge every single bandwagon fan. Like are you really down with me or not. And me as an artist, I have no choice but to respect that." (XXL Mag)
Freddie Gibbs took a closer examination at the possible album name.
"[The] Lil B sh*t was funny at first but now I feel like it's just a bunch of white people laughing at a n*gga, like a minstrel show. Sh*t is wack. I ain't dissin' gays, if you gay that's yo biz." (XXL Mag)
Killer Mike understood Lil B's angle and ultimate goal.
"He's a happy guy, gay means happy," the ATLien reminded readers. "It makes perfect sense to me. It's a provocative, bold thing to me. That's what B does. It's not as shocking to me. From a social element . . . this just feels like knocking down walls and stereotypes, embracing controversy and flipping it. Bravo to him for being the next Madonna. I also don't think Lil B could ever make some of the music that I make. If he's rapping about (gay) lifestyle the whole album, no I probably wouldn't want to hear it. If he's rapping on some hip-hop sh*t and it's a weird a**, weird Lil B album . . . I'd probably buy it like I I did his last (album) and have a little laugh." (XXL Mag)

"Ain't No More Bone Thugs Because Krayzie's B*tch A** Decided He Wanted To Quit?"

Using choice words to describe Krayzie's decision, Flesh said the group still remains in tact.
"What the f*ck do people mean it ain't no Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, because Krayzie's b*tch a** decided he wanted to quit? Man f*ck Krayzie homie. Put that in the paper. Check this out, check this out...Bone Thugs-N-Harmony gonna keep moving as Bone Thugs-N-Harmony man...Bone Thugs-N-Harmony don't consist of no mother f*ckin Krayzie Bone man, it consists of Flesh, Bizzy, Wish -- and Layzie. Just because one n*gga decided to quit don't mean its over for Bone Thugs-N-Harmony...Listen to what I'm telling you, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is on a world wild motherf*cking tour." (Z-107.9)
Prior to Flesh's remarks, Bone Thugs issued a statement on their former group member's decision.
"Let's be clear, Bone Thugs n Harmony the band/brand did not and does not break up. A single member has parted ways on another mission in life and we wish him love and success," a spokes person told AllHipHop.com exclusively. "BTNH World Wide the brand continues to functions 307 days a year globally, and will continue to do so with respect to its business partners and the great Fan Family." (All Hip Hop)
Earlier in week, Krayzie turned heads after announcing his departure.
"I will no longer be a part of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony," Krayzie revealed in a video. "Due to uncontrollable circumstances, it's basically time for me to move on and just start embarking on different endeavors I've already had planned in my life. Just trying to go to a whole other level in the music game, I am trying to grow and become greater at what I do." (Bone Thugs Promotion)
Krayzie made sure to also assure fans there was no bad blood in his move.
"It's been a great 20 year run with Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, I have nothing to complain about. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be right now, so its much love, for what Bone Thugs-n-Harmony has done for me. But its that time in my life to where I finally closed this chapter and opened up a new chapter in my life to start exploring these options out here." (Bone Thugs Promotion)

Fabolous On Supergroup Dreams, "[It's] A Little Taste Of That..."

Ideally, Fab envisions the album showcasing his and Ne-Yo's verbal skills while Leslie's talents are conveyed behind the boards.
"We just really started it, we've also talked about doing a project with me and Ne-Yo, kind of a Best of Both Worlds project -- with Ryan Leslie on the production," Fab explained in an interview. "'You Be Killin' Em 2' is a little taste of that. Just to hear how it would start. That remix came from the original song which [it] complimented women. This one does the same but I wanted to change the vibe. Summer's coming, you know, weather's breaking. I wanted it to be that sexy summer song. A lot of guys are like, 'Oh man, where's the bars? It's not enough bars.' It's eight bar verses but the vibe is there. I think most people connected with that more than saying it's just going to be a big hip-hop record. I wanted the vibe to still be there and the girls to get it. The beat ain't no punk neither. You can bop your head to the beat whether you a dude or a girl." (Rap Radar)
Around late January, Fab hinted at plans to link up with Ne-Yo for a full-length LP.
"I think this year too I might be doing this project with Ne-Yo finally," he told XXL. "We've been in talks for a minute. It's really sounding like it's gonna get done. Ne-Yo is really hyped about it. I just fell back on it, but now I see the wheels are turning a little bit. I think we need that for the game. Some of the allure from the game is gone. You see people doing less numbers, so now let's do some vanity projects where people are collaborating together." (XXL Mag)
In 2009, Leslie discussed possibly linking up with Fab and Ne-Yo to create a supergroup.
"We're talking about a triple-team collaboration that's really gonna hurt the game," he revealed. "Your boy Fab, the boy Ne-Yo and yours truly on the board. It's really gonna put a hurting on everybody...The table is open -- if you're bringing something to the table, you can break bread. It's about conceptualizing. It's not gonna be a project that's thrown together. It's gonna be a real roundtable, and we're gonna talk about really putting something in the atmosphere that contributes something that's never been done before." (MTV)
Last week, Fab dropped his Leslie and Ne-Yo-assisted "You Be Killin' Em 2."
Fabolous' massacre continues. The Brooklyn rapper hit the studio with Ne-Yo and Ryan Leslie to record a soulful sequel to his There Is No Competition 2 mixtape hit "You Be Killin' 'Em" called "Look at Her (Killin' 'Em Part 2)." Get a taste of the new version from Fab's The S.O.U.L. Tape, due April 21, which serves as a prequel to his next studio album Loso's Way 2. (Rap-Up)

Baby Cries Over 'Forbes' $100 Mil Estimate, "That's A Low Number For A N*gga Like Me"

Despite being credited with wealth projected at the $100 million mark, Baby said he easily banks in more money.
"I don't know how they tally up," Baby said in an interview with Uptown Angela referring to Forbes' list."To my knowledge I thought it was down. They said I made a $100 million dollars. I don't know where they get that sh*t from. I'm banking in more than a $100 million. That's a low number for a n*gga like me. But it's cool. For anybody to recognize anything is respected. We know what to do. The goal in our life and my life is to be a billionaire. I'm flipping hundreds. I ain't that far. I'm about eight steps." (Urban Radio NO)
In addition to Baby, Jay-Z and Diddy also made the Forbes list.
When it comes to net worth, Jay-Z is number two. The top spot goes to Sean "Diddy" Combs, who tops our accounting of rap's richest with a fortune of $475 million, fueled by his interests in Sean John clothing, Bad Boy Worldwide record label and, most significantly, his Diageo joint-venture vodka brand Ciroc. Jay-Z ranks a close second, with $450 million. Super producer/rapper Dr. Dre ranks third with $125 million, fueled by past earnings generated from his own career and by helping to launch those of Snoop Dogg and Eminem. Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, a one-time Dr. Dre protege who reaped a nine-figure payday from the sale of Vitamin Water to Coca-Cola, rounds out the top five in a tie with Cash Money Records cofounder Bryan "Birdman" Williams at $100 million. (Forbes)
Following the publication's release, Diddy shared his reaction and downplayed his wealth.
"To be honest, on that list, I was on the cover of Forbes back in '98," Diddy explained in an interview. "I been on that list. I don't really get caught up into the list. I think people think that I have that money actually sitting at home in the basement...It's really like if I sold all my companies, and I take pride in [building] something as a black man that's worth that much...To everyone calling me for a loan today, I do not have that money today! ... It helps inspire people and it shows the power of hip-hop." (MTV)

Lil B Embraces "Gay" Hate, "You Owe N*ggas An Explanation For This"

West Coast rapper Lil B has encountered mixed reactions over his decision to title his upcoming album, I'm Gay and has revealed the positive and negative fan remarks via Twitter.
While a majority of his tweets displayed support, a few fans voiced their concern over B's album title.

UK Pop Royalty Receives Backlash Over Odd Future Co-Sign

Within the feature, Adele discusses her admiration for the West Coast rappers.
Her love for music spans farther than just melodic singers. Adele has got a love for Odd Future as well: "They're refreshing, but my fans weren't happy when I posted their video on my blog." (Rolling Stone)
She reportedly posted up one of Tyler the Creator's tracks on her blog.
Adele did run into trouble when she posted Tyler's track 'Yonkers' on her blog though, with fans taking against the songs hardcore lyrics. The 'Someone Like You' star posted the black and white video along with a sentence saying, "check this out. He's offensive but I love him!! Tyler the Creator" last month. "My fans weren't happy." admitted Adele. She's not wrong. PopDash had a look at the blog post and one fan posted a comment saying: "That Tyler the Creator song was kind of hilarious. I think it was supposed to be dark and serious, but I couldn't help laughing my a** off!" (PopDash)

Lil B Ready To Come Out, "I'm Gonna Do The Most Controversial Thing In Hip-Hop"

West Coast rapper Lil B has the media on its heels after revealing his intent to name the title of an upcoming album, I'm Gay.

Performing at the annual Coachella festival over the weekend, B broke the news to a crowd of fans.
"I'm gonna do the most controversial thing in hip-hop," B said while performing at Coachella in Indio, California. "Y'all heard it hear first. And I'm gonna just show y'all that words don't mean sh*t. I'm gonna make an album called 'I'm Gay.' Now I'm gonna tell y'all why I'm the first person to do it in hip-hop and why y'all are the first people to know my reason...First of all, gay means happy. I like women, I love women, you feel me? But it just shows me, no matter what you do, live life, you only got one life to live, be happy. F*ck the hating." (YouTube)
Last summer, Lil B talked about not being a homosexual.
"It's a touchy subject. I respect the h*ll out of gays and the gay community. I'm not a gay man. I don't agree with sex with another man or f*cking another man or giving blow jobs to another guy. That's not my thing. I'd rather f*ck a girl, f*ck her in her a**, f*ck her in the mouth or something. Sorry for cussing." (Complex)
Recently, producer 9th Wonder gave props to Lil B's music.
"Lil B reached out to me 3 or 4 months ago on Twitter and told me he's a big fan of myself and Murs," 9th revealed in an interview. "At the time I didn't know who he was, so I Google'd his stuff, and I was like "ooo-kay" [Laughs]. I saw 'Wonton Soup' and all that. Then, the Twitter world started going crazy off the fact that I was even talking to Lil B...It wasn't until he released a record with Tony Yayo called 'Based,' that Khrysis told me to check out. I heard it and he was saying some stuff on there -- I was digging it -- so of course I hit him back on Twitter to tell him. He was just really adamant about getting up. I told him if we get up -- you can't do no 'Wonton Soup' [Laughs]. And he knew it." (VIBE)

Vado On Interscope Deal, "I Feel Like Kobe When He First Went To The Lakers"

Comparing his new situation to when NBA superstar Kobe Bryant entered the league, Vado said he was anxious to show off his talent.
"I feel like Kobe [Bryant] when he first went to the Lakers," Vado told radio host Jenny Boom Boom. "You know he had the talent, you know he been good since he got to that level but now it's time to see what he can do on the mainstream. You know? ... Everybody is going to be satisfied. Trust me. It's going to be music for everyone. [What do I not want to do with my Interscope debut?] Not be [myself]. Anything you do, be yourself at it." (Jenny Boom Boom TV)
Last month, Dipset's Cam'ron formally announced Vado's signing to Interscope Records.
On Monday (March 28), Cam'ron announced that his protégé, fellow Harlem rapper Vado, has inked a recording contract with Interscope Records. "He just signed a deal with Interscope," the rapper told Angie Martinez on her Hot 97 radio show. "Shout toJimmy Iovine, DJ [DJ Mormile, senior VP of A&R at Interscope], what up, yo?! Big shout to DJ and Jimmy Iovine over there at Interscope. We appreciate that." (MTV)
In addition to Interscope, Vado and Cam'ron are set to drop their new Gunz N' Butta album this Tuesday (April 19).

Jim Jones Stays Ballin' In The Industry, "It Might Be Difficult For People That Ain't Husting"

Jones believes artists' payrolls ultimately are based on how good of a hustler they are.
"Well, it might be difficult for the people that ain't hustling to not make the money they used to make, but sh**, me I'm sitting pretty good. It's a pretty lucrative business for me, so when people say that, it makes me laugh because nine times out of ten, the rappers you do see and the musicians you do see on TV, have things that people dream about and can't achieve. I would watch what people say is lucrative and not lucrative, because most likely their job is not that lucrative. Most likely, their job would probably be money that we spend frivolously in a couple of days that they make in a year or so. It's just funny how the media paints it." (Baller Status)
He also acknowledged the progression of music becoming more viral.
"Now the truth is the climate of the music industry has gotten a little bit chilly, due to the whole viral thing that's going on, but that's also a great thing. And with all great things, you just gotta learn how to make a move with it. Everybody gotta evolve. It's nothing wrong with that. Which companies do you think make the most money and are offering the most jobs? It's the viral community they're making the most money. It's pretty simple when you know the game humph!" (Baller Status)
Thinking outside of music, Dipset's Freekey Zekey recently talked to SOHH about owning his own restaurant.
"First and foremost, the name of my restaurant is The Palmetto. It's located in Greensboro, North Carolina. A lot of people run around and get a whole lot of jewelry and spend money in strip clubs and not that I'm saying that any of that is bad, but I want to build a foundation. Once you get to be around 28, 29 and 30 in the rap game, you're considered old. It's just like in basketball or football. Once you reach a certain age, once you get into your 30's, you're considered an old head. So I had to find out what my foundation was going to be so when it's all said and done, I'm sitting pretty. I can be 50 years-old with a cane and still talking to the nice little 25 year-old ladies." (SOHH Guest Star)

"To Be A Good Producer Right Now, It's Going To Take..."

Acknowledging the emergence of online stars, Jonsin gave some advice for producers on the come up.
"Well right now there's so many artists coming out through the internet, who are developing their own sound and producing their own songs. They're using Pro Tools and what not. But I think, not to take anything from them, but musicianship in most of the music that's coming now is lacking. So something that producers in this day and age should do is start developing artists that are musicians, that play guitars and keyboards and whatever else. We have a responsibility to help change music to being better than it is. Music needs to be great again. So I think to be a good producer right now, its going to take something special. You're gonna have to be able to put together a group of people like the traditional producers did, like a Quincy Jones or a Rick Rubin. Those guys taught really taught and bred talent." (VIBE)
He also revealed his interest in working with some mega stars including Jay-Z and Britney Spears.
"I want to work with Britney Spears. I haven't worked with her. I want to try and do something with Britney, that's something different. Also, I want to work with Jeezy. Him and I have had ideas but we never really got into work, and I definitely want to work with Jay-Z, that would be a dream come true. Jay-Z is one of my favorite artists so that would be huge. I've worked with B, I haven't worked with him. Its like 'come on man! Lets get it going.'" (VIBE)
Last year, DJ Michael "5000" Watts talked to SOHH about advising younger generations about the benefits of Internet presence.
"One big pieces of advice I give to all these students hoping to make it in the business is to get them to get their Internet presence up. The Internet is really where it's been at for the last couple years and most of the kids coming up in the music industry that are involved with Grammy U, they're already on it. They know the importance of having a strong Internet presence with the way music sales are going down." (SOHH Guest Star)
A couple years ago, G-Unit's Tony Yayo spoke on the advantages of online promotion.
"We overlooking the city. The Unit is bringing the energy back through the Internet. It's to the point now where you don't have to pay nobody to get on...you could just put it on the Internet and become a star." (MTV)
