Maxine Ashley x Lil Wayne – Hot Thing (Prod. by Pharrell)
Maxine Ashley first channeled her soothing vocal chords to a mass audience on The Cool Kids‘ “Summer Jam” (on which you probably couldn’t believe she was only 19, right?). Picture the middle ground between Rihanna and Kid Sister and you’ll see this songstress occupying turf. Under the guise of her mentor Pharrell, having been signed to Interscope/Star Trak, her career looks to be aligned on exactly the right path as she steals her boss and none other than Lil Wayne (who I’m guessing owed P a favour) for her solo cut “Hot Thing”. NICKI MINAJ QUITTING RAP???
I know many of my Alius readers can imagine me chuckling in delight as I am typing this post, but I assure you all that is not the case. Despite my very public disputes with fellow members of the Alius staff and also Nicki lovers on Twitter and Facebook, I am actually saddened by the thought of Ms. Minaj even considering quitting the game. Regardless of how I feel about her lyrical talent, she represents a very marginalized group of women in the music business, the female emcee. Minaj has undisputed star quality and great business sense so what is prompting her to even entertain the idea of resigning from the music business? To begin with and for those of you who don't follow Minaj's every move, last week the Barbie princess deactivated her Twitter account, releasing over 11 million followers and leaving a good portion of the hip hop masses very disappointed. Her reason for this? Apparently, one of her fan sites, Nicki Daily, leaked music from her latest album, "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded," and after exchanging some pointed words with a few of her angry Barbz and Kenz in relation to the leak, she decided to leave Twitter for good, calling a certain group of followers "very mean."
Following her Twitter departure, Nicki gave an interview with UK radio host, Tim Westwood where she candidly discusses the strains the music business has placed on her. It seems that Ms. Minaj feels that she should have received a greater amount of appreciation for her latest album. Juggling between accents (the first, Britsh and the second, her rendition of rapper and labelmate, Lil Wayne), Minaj commented to Westwood: "This is my fourth mixtape really. You know what I'm saying. The Kid did it like that so she could feed her fans. But really, now the Kid is thinking maybe she should leave the game."
Tsk tsk, the fame may finally be taking a toll on our favorite hip hop doll. I actually feel sorry for Nicki though. Underneath all the neon spandex, multi-colored wigs and heavy eye make-up is just a girl who wants to be respected for her work and her dedication to music. Why can't we just love her for that? It definitely wouldn't be smart for her to leave now though. Regardless of how much appreciation Nicki felt she deserved for "Roman Reloaded", the album still sold over 253,000 copies, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200. Not to mention the fact that she is still loved EVERYWHERE, especially here in Detroit where she shut down Club Pandemonium at capacity after her concert last April.
Let's all pray for her....and in the meantime, check out excerpts from her interview with Westwood at timwestwoodtv on YouTube.

Ma$e Clocks In "Slight Work" W/ Diddy, Wale & French Montana
Former Bad Boy Records rapper Ma$e is officially back to making music again as heard on Wale's "Slight Work" remix featuring his ex-boss Diddy.
On the record, Ma$e takes fans back to his early Harlem World days with colorful rhymes.
"Whatchu want me to say, whatchu want to do," Ma$e raps. "Different kind of money make different kind of moves/Different kind of dudes wear different kind of jewels/Different kind of drop on different kind of shoes/With my hat to the back, man a different kind of mood/You get a different kind of chill from a different kind of cool." ("Slight Work" Remix)The track also boasts vocals courtesy of Bad Boy rookie French Montana.
For weeks, Wale's been on Twitter teasing the world about the remix to his current hit single, "Slight Work," claiming the track's co-conspirators would shock everyone. With the song's liberation moments ago, Folarin may have accomplished just that. French Montana's not exactly surprising given his connection with MMG and the fact he's one of rap's more talked about names at the moment*. However, seeing Diddy and Mase on a track together in 2012 may not have been high on the list of guesses. (Smoking Section)Recent reports suggested Ma$e could be headed to Rick Ross' record label.
According to a reliable source within the Maybach Music Group camp pieces are falling into place. "Yes, I think its safe to say Omarion is MMG." As the Maybach Music empire continues to evolve it may not end there. Seems as if there is another offer on the table, "I don't want to let no cats out the bag but we'll see what's good with Ma$e." When pressed about what the roster may look like in the upcoming months, "As far as newest members Omarion and shout out to Ma$e if he wants to get down with this movement then we'll see what happens." (The Source)Last week, French Montana hyped up the return of Diddy's protege.
"We were in a Miami studio last night and Ma$e just stopped by," Montana exclusively told XXL. "We were just workin' on my album. We recorded two songs together--me, Ross and Ma$e. You might hear [Ma$e] on either my album [Excuse My French] or Ross' [God Forgives, I Don't] or both." Although the current 2012 XXL Freshman wouldn't divulge any further details on the songs, he did mention that Ma$e is sounding pretty sharp and this collaboration with himself, Rozay and the former Bad Boy has been in the works. "We been planning it," French said. "Ma$e sounds good, sound like he never left. His flow is crazy. We're going to let the world hear soon enough. Stay tuned. Just stay tuned." UPDATE: College Student Calls Tyga, "Rack City" Arrest Reports Bogus
Days after an alleged female Tyga fan made headlines for reportedly getting arrested over spray-painting her college campus, Alyssa Bloechl has hit up SOHH to set the record straight.
According to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville student, her school newspaper ran a satirical story on her which, coincidentally, caught widespread media attention.
According to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville student, her school newspaper ran a satirical story on her which, coincidentally, caught widespread media attention.
She has also taken to Twitter to clear up the confusion."Every semester, my school's newspaper publishes our version of the "Onion", called "The Antagonist." This time the editorial staff decided to write fake police reports about each other. Mine was the first one listed, and that is why I think it got so much attention. It was written by one of the other editors as a joke, and we all wrote different ones about each other," Bloechl told SOHH via statement. "It was completely satirical. Then someone shared a photo of my report on Facebook without stating that it was fake. It instantly got a lot of attention on Dacebook, Twitter, Imgur, Pinterest and multiple blogs. I had family members asking me if it was real. This was not meant to be seen as a real report, but a way for the other newspaper editors and I to practice writing satire. Obviously, we did a very good job. I am very disappointed in the number of people that would believe this is true, especially of those who I know. I feel things on the Internet today are taken way too seriously. As a journalist, I will always double and triple check my facts before I publish anything because I now know what the repercussions can do to a person if a piece of information is false. I just want this to be understood as a piece of really well written satire, that no one should believe." (SOHH)
"@joe_maz im glad you like it, but this is however a very satirical "police report." it was written a a joke in my school's fake newspaper.," she tweeted April 20th.
"@VEISHEAproblems thank you, but this is a satirical "police report" written in my school's fake newspaper! i'm glad it's such a hit!"
"i'm glad the @UWPexponent is helping teach people what satire is!" (Alyssa Bloechl's Twitter)Bloechl's "arrest" reports began circulating online last week.
Tyga's "Rack City" can make people do crazy things. That mischievous bass line alone incites some wild behavior, but it had a lasting effect on one girl. The 21-year-old tagged up her campus and and fled from police all in the name of "Rack City." She eventually got caught and arrested, but it was probably worth it. Check out this story from a local paper. (Complex)Based on the story, she was described as getting caught spraying down multiple school buildings.
Alyssa Bloechl, 21, Merill, was cited for disorderly conduct after being caught spray painting the words "Rack City B*tch" on several campus buildings. Once spotted by campus police, Bloechl fled the scene while shouting "ten ten ten twenties on ya t*tties b*tch" at the pursuing police men. Bloechl was eventually stopped and arrested. (ItsTheReal)
