BET/Hot 97's DJ Megatron Killed In NY


New York's Hot 97 radio host Corey "DJ Megatron" McGriff was reportedly fatally killed over the weekend outside of his Staten Island home.

Detail of the shooting landed online hours after the shooting took place.


DJ Megatron, a popular hip-hop radio personality who frequently appeared on BET's106 & Park television program, was shot and killed early this morning near his home in Staten Island, according to the Associated Press. Police said the 32-year old deejay, born Corey McGriff, was found dead around 2 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his chest. No arrests have been made. (Entertainment Weekly)
Megatron's manager also confirmed the fatal incident occurred.
His manager Regg Rocc released this statement to E! News: "Mega's family is grateful for all of the condolences and warm thoughts of his fans and friends. Please continue to uplift your prayers of support as an ongoing investigation is currently being conducted by law enforcement officials." (E! Online)
His mother also addressed the shooting.
As NYPD detectives combed the scene of the whodunit, DJ Megatron's family reeled from their sudden loss. "It is just earth-shattering," his mother, Louvenia McGriff, 60, told the Daily News by telephone from her Georgia home. "Words can't describe the way my husband and I feel right now. I just don't know how we're going to make it without him. He was our golden child." (New York Daily News)
In addition to working at Hot 97, Megatron was also an on-air BET personality.
Corey McGriff, who went by the name DJ Megatron and appeared on BET and performed in city clubs, was pronounced dead at the scene a little after 2 a.m. "It looks like he was just walking alone and became a victim," a police source said. McGriff, 32, had hosted episodes and served as in-house DJ for the BET show "106 and Park." He also hosted BET's internet show "On Blast." (AM NY)
