Remy Ma Suffers Major Setback In Jail Release Hopes

Incarcerated rapper Remy Ma will leave fans waiting longer for her release from New York's Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women as early departing hopes seem all but diminished.
According to reports, Remy will not be eligible for early release until January 2015.
Remy Ma is currently serving an eight-year sentencestemming from 2008 convictions on assault, weapons possession and coercion charges. After losing her appealearlier this year, the rapstress, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, will have a parole hearing in September 2014 with an eligibility date set for January 31, 2015, according to court documents. If parole is denied, the 30-year-old, who began serving time on May 21, 2008, may remain in New York's Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women until March 23, 2016 - her sentence's maximum expiration date. In March, former jailed rapper Da Brat reflected on Remy's incarceration.
"Aw man. I think Remy got that boss b*tch mentality too. But I don't know what it's like. She's in New York and I think it's a little harder than the ATL. That may be a little different. But I know she keeping her head up and doing what she got to do. I don't doubt that she's like me--a boss b*tch." (XXL Mag)
Former rap rival Lady Luck recently told SOHH she wished the best for Remy during her bid.
"As far as her legal woes are concerned, I don't wish that on no one," Lady told SOHH referring to Remy Ma's eight-year jail sentence. "You know what I mean? It's trying on people mentally, I know especially for her, because she had her career, her child and regardless of whatever happened between her and I, I never wish that on nobody. I don't wish that on nobody because I did a punk a** 110 days [behind bars] and I know I was in there dying. So eight years, six years year, whatever. Regardless of what happened between us, I couldn't wish that on her. My heart goes out to her in her situation." (SOHH)
Remy made headlines after an appeal was rejected in a New York courtroom last February.
New York's top court has upheld the conviction of rapper Remy Ma in the shooting of a friend in 2007. In a ruling Thursday, the Court of Appeals rejected arguments that a judge didn't properly inform jurors before they rendered a guilty verdict. The rapper's real name is Remy Smith. She's serving eight years in prison for criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of assault stemming from the struggle in which a friend was shot. Smith had accused the friend of stealing $3,000 from her pocketbook. (My Fox News)
