Appearing at Sean's Finally Famous album listening session last night (June 7), Yeezy wasted no time in hyping up his artist's potential.
Last night, Big Sean hosted a private listening at The Standard Hotel (NYC) for his G.O.O.D. Music debut, Finally Famous. After the music was played, Kanye stepped onto the stage and said a few endearing words about his artist. "Big Sean story is one of the most amazing ever because he literally got signed off of a freestyle, to now...having the potential to be one of the biggest artists in the world...What Beyonce is to R-n-B...Big Sean can be to rap.....And I apologize for being late, I had a Throne to watch." (VIBE)Confident in his own style, Big Sean recently told SOHH he would include himself in our Top 5 5 Dead or Alive challenge.
"Big Sean goes in there because I'm my favorite rapper. H*ll yeah. I'm deserving of being in the Hall of Fame because I changed hip-hop with a rap star before even dropping my first album. Everybody in the game you can think from Lil Wayne to Drake were influenced [by me]. They borrowed my style, [and] it showed me how far I can go in this rap game. I'm only 22." (SOHH's Top 5 D.O.A.)In March, Sean reacted to Drake citing Ludacris for using his signature flow.
"With the super duper flow, I created that one word rhyme style," Big Sean said in an interview. "Drake really made it more popular, but Drake gave me the credit and was like, 'I really got that from Big Sean.' I think some artists just did it so wack man. Every time I say names I get in trouble and it's like I'm dissing, but some people used it wack. If he said Ludacris used it wack, hey. Don't get it wrong I'm not trying to dis Ludacris or nothing. He's a great MC. But even though that style got so overused, there was a lot of people who did it great and there was a lot of people who didn't do it so great. People always ask me was you mad that people took that style from you. I'm like, 'Nah, that went and shows me how far I can go as an artist.' I feel like I changed hip-hop. I haven't even dropped an album yet. So that goes to show me how powerful my mind is.'" (RapFix)In addition to co-signs from artists like Drake and Lil Kim, former Slum Village member eLZhi recently hit up SOHH and gave his impression of Sean.
"We done kicked it out in L.A. together and he pulled me out on stage and introduced me to 'his' audience of fans who might not know who I [am]," eL told SOHH. "It's much love to him. He's a real cool brother and I definitely like what he's doing. I let him know numerous amounts of times that I've seen him out there [and] I like what he's doing. What's crazy is [rapper] Mike Posner is trying to get me and Big Sean on a record together. So once everybody is free and able to do that, we're gonna jump in the studio and knock that out. It's just a matter of timing. I got with Mike Posner [about a month ago] and he said, 'Let's make it happen.' Everybody is definitely down to do it, we're just trying to figure out when the time's right." (SOHH)
