Curren$y Credits Pharrell & Cam'ron For Fueling #JetLife

Warner Bros. Records' Curren$y recently opened up about his #JetLife movement and how artists like Pharrell and Cam'ron ultimately fueled the brand.

The rapper admits that he was motivated to build his own brand after studying the successes of Star Trak and Dipset, respectively.
Curren$y provides further insight into his success. "I'm big on observing. And it was definitely, shall we say, educational to see certain artists going about building their empires, building their own movements: Pharrell with Star Trak, Cam'ron with Dipset. Fans would hear a beat and be like, 'That sounds like a Neptunes beat,' or 'That sounds like a Dipset joint.' That's how I engineered Jet Life to be. I want it to be branded in a way, so the people know what it is." (Village Voice)
Curren$y's new Weekend At Burnie's retail mixtape landed on the sales chart a couple weeks ago.

He recently addressed the stereotype associated with "weed rappers".
"I think the term weed rapper is wack," Curren$y said in an interview. "I think it was created by rappers who are trying to use weed as a subject matter that will get them put on in the game, in a sense. If you remember in CB4 how that group had to make themselves be gangstas just to get on. So now weed rappers are people who are faking to be high all the time so that they could get on and be popular and rap. They're not high, they don't even know good weed. They're probably just smoking regular, killin' themselves but it's just like, 'All I do is rap about being high, so I can catch the wave like Spitta and 'em.' It's bullsh--. I don't just f--kin' talk about weed so I know it's that bullsh--." (RapFix)
On a lighter note, the rapper talked about imagining a smoke session with pop star Britney Spears and actress Jessica Alba.
"If it's really just a smoke session I probably wanna get high with Britney Spears, in this condition," Curren$y said referring to a photo of Spears with a shaved head. "Now if it's about getting high and f*cking it's gonna have to be Jessica Alba because -- she would definitely help me with some financial backing, but I would smoke weed with Slick [Britney Spears] all day. Better believe it." (Droz Daily Steezin)
