NikeTown NY Air Jordan 11 Concord Launch Event Recap

By all accounts, it was a superlative evening for a midnight release in New York City yesterday. An uncannily mild winter night brought out last minute gift buyers, holiday bargain hunters, and thousands upon thousands sneaker heads. Almost every where you looked, there was a line-up for the prized Air Jordan XI Retro Concord. By mid-evening, an unofficial grid-lock alert on 34th Street went out via Twitter. Portions of the busy intersection in front of Macy’s department store were shut down because of not one but two line-ups. One for House of Hoops and the other for Foot Lockdiagonally across the intersection.

Things fare much better on 57th Street, where NikeTown NYC cordoned off one part of its storefront sidewalk for wristband holders, the other for non-holders. The affair was like clockwork till the rain came around 10:30 pm. Folks sought shelters any where and every where, from the employee entrance of the Tiffany flagship store around the corner to Tourneau‘s mega store on the opposite end. Most, though, toughed it out through the incessant downpour with coats, umbrellas, plastic bags, even cardboard they found on the street. To ease the situation, staffs at NikeTown NYC let more people into the store, to get them in from the rain. Nike rain gears, like its giant Nike Golf umbrella, were readily available for purchase too. But in the end, all were ecstatic simply to have the Air Jordan XI Retro Concord in their hands. With a few quick sips of the hot chocolate provided by NikeTown, its right back out onto the cold, rain, and a Nike shopping bag.
