Lupe Fiasco Reveals Unchanged Atlantic Records Woes, "It's Not On Me"

Grammy-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco may have won a small battle last year releasing the long-delayed Lasers LP, however, he now reveals there are still complications with Atlantic Records.

According to Fiasco, his issues with Atlantic Records not putting out his music in a timely fashion still exist.

"The 'Lupe [Fiasco's Food & Liquor II]' album is [coming out] hopefully. It's not on me," he reveals. "It's not done yet. I'm waiting on my record company, ain't nothing changed. Same business, it's on them." While he waits on his label, Fiasco is gearing up to go back out on the road. "We got a big tour coming up in Australia in April, and we got a couple things sprinkled through the top part of the year," he states. "Nothing real crazy, we're going to wait until the album drops to really go hard." (The Boom Box)

In April, the Chicago rapper discussed his problems with Atlantic.

"They still can't understand me. They still don't get it. They still don't understand that, even without a hit record, Lupe Fiasco will be just as relevant and just as successful as the dude with the hit record. They just don't get that." (XXL Mag)

Earlier in the year, Fiasco claimed the label requested specific demands from him regarding his third album's material.

"I was specifically told" -- Fiasco chuckled -- "'Don't rap too deep on this record.'" He laughed some more. "That was a specific order from the top. 'You're rapping too fast or too slow, or it's too complex.' ... There are consequences and combat that comes from that process and the eventual compromise. With me, though, I'm not writing about someone else. I'm writing about me. This is my life. It's very personal for me. So for somebody to kind of put their fingers in that and play with that, it becomes more damaging." (Chicago Sun-Times)

Despite his label woes, Lupe's Lasers album still topped the sales chart last March.

Leading the pack this week is Lupe Fiasco's Lasers which topped the chart at No. 1. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Lupe's long-awaited third solo album sold 204,300 records in seven days. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
