Wiz Khalifa Says He's Putting On For His City, "Philly Is More East Coast Than Pittsburgh"

Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa recently opened up about putting on for his hometown hip-hop scene and how his recent success is paving the way for newcomers.

Despite sharing the same state, Khalifa said Pittsburgh is vastly different when compared to Philadelphia.

"With the music, it's a whole new avenue we done opened up for kids and for people to look up to," Khalifa said in an interview. "It's a reality now out there, so it's really important for us to just embrace 'em and motivate 'em and push 'em forward. You really won't get it if you're not from there -- Just growing up in Pittsburgh and knowing different neighborhoods, having family there and just loving it, it's like no other place. We always had love for Philly. It was harder for Philly to embrace us because we're a little bit slower to them or to more East Coast towns. Philly is more East Coast than Pittsburgh. It's closer to New Jersey and New York, so the vibe is way more fast-paced. Pittsburgh, it's just laid-back ... Midwest almost on some country stuff." (MTV)

Last month, the rapper addressed critics questioning his hometown love.

Over the fall, rapper LoLa Monroe broke the news of her Khalifa signing.

She explained why she decided to sign with the "Black and Yellow" rapper. "Wiz is like a positive free individual that's about his business and that matches everything I've created on my side," she said. "When he reached out, he was like, 'I feel as though our movements represent the same thing, so I want you to rep Taylor Gang.' And I agreed, so it's only right. Plus, out of all the situations that came to me, my business instincts and just the comfort level, I felt it was just the right move with him. He's a stand-up dude and it just felt right." LoLa, who was nominated for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at this year's BET Awards, is prepping her debut album and will drop a new single in November. "It's gon' be crazy." (Rap-Up)

In light of the new acts including Juicy J's signing, Taylor Gang's Chevy Woods recently hit up SOHH and gave his reaction to the team's latest acquisitions.

"I'm bringing my me and my laid back personality. The Taylor Gang is one gang, but we're all different. No one is trying to be other other. All of us do little things to spread their message to the world. Each Taylor Gang member is good with the lane of music they're doing ... we can jump into each others lane and make it work. As far as what I want to get out the game, I'm not looking for a big pot of gold or a certain amount of money or none of that sh**. I'm just lookin' for the respect and the love." (SOHH)
