Jadakiss Defends Killing The Baldie Look, "A Lot Of People Think My Hair Couldn't Grow"

The LOX's Jadakiss recently discussed his decision to take on naysayers and critics going at his iconic baldie look by growing out his hair.

According to Kiss, he was determined to show fans he is not suffering from hair loss.

"One of my reasons for growing it was that a lot of people think my hair couldn't grow," Kiss said in an interview. "Then I wanted to do a new look with a new album. The ladies say they like it. My mom said she likes it. ... My mom didn't think I could grow hair. I was like, 'ma, c'mon. What's wrong with you?' I had a bald head for so long, people think it was by force, not by choice. But we gonna switch it up." (Sucker Free)

OutKast's Andre 3000 recently defended his decision to keep his hair unshaven.

"Style is taking what you have, kind of what you're given, and playing with it," Dre said in a Gillette promotional video. "That's what style is, just kinda finding what's in you and putting it out into something you have that nobody else has. You kind of just have to love it and nurture it and say, 'This is me and I'm just gonna blast it out to the world!' Facial hair is a part of getting up in the morning. It took me a long time to actually grow hair on my face, so when I got it, I didn't want to get rid of it! I think it's something that frames your face up. ... At the moment, me and my barber kind of separated in a way 'cause my hair's growing. [laughs] So, I don't go by and get haircuts. I haven't gone by in about three years. Maybe. I do my own grooming at home so he reaches out every now and again. He's one less customer right now." (Gillette)

Last fall, West Coast rapper Murs talked to SOHH about cutting his trademark dreads.

"Maybe it was the time," Murs told SOHH, referring to the popular trend of artists cutting off their long hair. "Lil Wayne still has it and he's the king. Or he's the king of the young people I should say. It definitely had a lot to do with me, learning about myself. To me, it puts more pressure to stand out more from the action of my words rather than just the hairstyle. A lot of people think I smoke weed [because of the stigma associated with long locks]." Back in 2010, video vixen Rosa Acosta addressed her battle with hair loss.

"I didn't have to ask permission from anyone to cut my hair. However, due the overwhelming response I felt it was only right to address my condition," she wrote. "People have demanded an answer about why I cut my hair while insinuating that as if it was going to destroy me in some way. The truth is I cut my hair because my hair is falling out and has been for over a decade and I needed to began my treatments again. I encourage other people out there with a hair loss problem to accept your reality and make the most of it. For what I do, I feel like I'm a bad b*tch and I don't need hair to make me. When I want to wear the hair I will. But for now, the most important thing for me to do is go through my treatments to make my scalp healthy which will intern give me a healthy head of hair."
