George Zimmerman Catches Heat After Wife, Jail Calls Exposed

Incarcerated Florida resident George Zimmerman is catching heat this week in light of jail calls to his wife getting released which reportedly prove she lied to a judge last April over funds.

According to reports, the calls feature Zimmerman and his wife discussing a range of notable topics.
In a half dozen phone calls between a locked-up George Zimmerman and his wife, the couple talk about their love for each other, buying bulletproof vests and how to move a flood of donations into their personal accounts, recordings released Monday reveal. Prosecutors allege the six phone calls prove that Shellie Zimmerman lied when she told a judge that the couple was broke before her husband was granted bail in April. (Orlando Sentinel)
The calls specifically prove Zimmerman's wife was aware of their $100,000-plus funds despite telling a judge they were broke in April at a bail bond hearing.
The calls made public by prosecutors Monday could play a crucial role in George Zimmerman's second bond hearing next week. Zimmerman was released on $150,000 bond in April, several days after the jailhouse calls. At his bond hearing, his wife, Shellie, testified that she didn't know how much money had been raised from a website created for his legal defense and that the couple had virtually no money to pay Zimmerman's high bail. However, prosecutors say the calls show George and Shellie Zimmerman knew that roughly $135,000 had been raised by the site. (CBS News)
Additional reports point out him poking fun at slain victim Trayvon Martin who now-infamously is known for being fatally shot by Zimmerman wearing a hoodie.
When Shellie advises that he "could always lay down or something" to hide from onlookers, Zimmerman said, "Yeah, exactly. Well, I have my hoodie."And then you hear what sounds like an exhaled laugh. You can hear the exchange starting at about 12 minutes and 35 seconds into the call. Words cannot even express how disgusting this is. An unarmed Trayvon was wearing a hoodie when he was shot and killed by Zimmerman on Feb. 26. That the neighborhood watch volunteer could even say "hoodie" is beyond callous. (Washington Post)
Earlier this month, Zimmerman's wife was taken in by authorities on a perjury charge.
Shellie Zimmerman, wife of George Zimmerman, who killed Trayvon Martin, was arrested Tuesday on one count of perjury, the Seminole County, Fla., Sheriff's Department said. Deputies arrested Shellie Zimmerman, 25, about 3:30 p.m. ET, after they were advised by the office of State Attorney Angela Corey that a warrant had been issued. His $150,000 bond was revoked after allegations that during an April 20 bail hearing he and Shellie Zimmeran misled the court about their finances, neglecting to disclose they had raised at least $135,000 in a PayPal account. The order issued Tuesday by Assistant State Attorney John Guy charged Shellie Zimmerman with knowingly making false statements during the April hearing.
