Former SRC Records artist Asher Roth has now been signed to Def Jam! Congratulations to him. He plans on releasing his new mixtape, Pabst & Jazz, on Monday (November 21). There have also been talks of Asher releasing his follow-up to 2009's Asleep in the Bread Aisle, called Is This Too Orange, in 2012. UTG will keep you in the loop with that piece of news. Def Jam is still under the Universal name so it's not like he's changing the frame completely but we wish him the best of luck. (Under The Gun Review)The label shift move has been confirmed by a Def Jam executive.
Rapper Asher Roth has announced his signing with Def Jam for the release of his sophomore album next year. Roth had previously been signed with SRC Records, who released his 2009 debut, Asleep in the Bread Aisle. Def Jam executive Shawn Costner revealed that Roth's second album, Is This Too Orange is slated for early in 2012. In the meantime, fans can expect Roth's latest mixtape "Pabst & Jazz" to hit the web next Monday (November 21st.) (Hip Hop Blog)In September, Roth revealed changing his long-awaited sophomore album from The Spaghetti Tree to Is This Too Orange.
"I got two projects coming out. Nobody knows this by the way. We have a joint called Paps & Jazz, which is just a mixtape," Ash revealed in an interview. "[The Cool Kids'] Chuck Inglish is on it, Blended Babies and a lot of my homies are just jamming, chill, stream-of-conscious stuff. And then we have the new album Is This Too Orange...I was waking up and it just came to me. It turns out that orange is the color of the creative chakra [each of the centers of spiritual power in the human body]." (Power 106 FM)The rapper previously hinted at a few guest features the album would have.
"We haven't really got there yet. Not yet. Game got on 'Splish Splash' because he was just there in the studio. I think it's great to make the music and then figure out who would sound good on what. Robin Thicke did get on one though, but we'll see if it'll stick around. I just linked up with [Don] Cannon and I still want will.i.am to come holla at me because I want to talk some "Joints and Jams" type sh*t. He's super talented. It really just comes down if they want to do it or not at this point. I don't have big money. I mean wish I could say lets get in the studio for a million dollars but it's just not like that." (VIBE)Asher Roth's Asleep in the Break Aisle 2009 debut opened at No. 5 with 62,000 copies.
