Rapper Drake cut short his Tuesday concert in California on police orders. The Best I Ever Had hitmaker was performing at Irvine's Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre but overran his scheduled time - forcing cops to step in to end the gig, as the venue is close to several residential areas. A representative from the Irvine Police Department confirmed to MTV News that they had to wrap it up at approximately 11:45 p.m., forcing the MC to cut about three songs from his set. There were no incidents at the event, but because of the amphitheater's close proximity to several residential areas, police asked Drake to end his show after he went past his scheduled stop time. The "Marvins Room" MC complied. (MTV)Drake also took to Twitter early Wedneday (May 9) morning to address the incident.
"Police made me cut the show short but I love you all for rocking with me Irvine!," he tweeted. (Drake's Twitter)The platinum-selling rapper's tour officially kicked off earlier this week.
Drake's long-running 'Club Paradise' tour has been a study of unity and strategy. On both incarnations of the tour, he's assembled a collective of potential rivals and enrolled them as allies. With Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky emerging as the underground leaders of the new school earlier this year, Drake took them on the road on the first leg of the tour. For the second leg of 'Club Paradise,' which kicked off in Concord, Calif. on Monday (May 7), Drake has assembled a more gully group of rappers in Waka Flocka Flame, Meek Mill, French Montana and 2 Chainz to bring club favorites to stadiums. J. Cole, who's on the bill, didn't perform opening night. (Billboard)Check out a portion of Drake's tour performance below:
