Nas Says Destiny Led Him To "Daughters" Anthem, "The Book Is Open. The Movie Begins"

New York rap veteran Nas has stepped forward to put his new "Daughters" record into perspective, revealing his own 17 year-old Destiny fueled the Life Is Good single.

As a grown father, Nas said he had to take real life instances more into consideration.
The track has God's Son rhyming about his 17-year-old daughter writing letters to a man in jail, posting pictures of a box of condoms on a social network and him partially blaming himself for some of her risqué behavior for not being more strict. In all, Nas told XXL that the record was written and performed with love and honesty. "Yeah man, I guess we're starting to give you the next chapter," Nas explained. "It's like a story in a way. We're about to give you the next records and give the people the album. That's just opening up the album to people, it's go time. We started, 'Nasty' been out there for a long time. Then 'The Don' that video should drop this week. Then, we open. The book is open. The movie begins. So 'Daughters' is like welcome to my world." (XXL Mag)
He also reflected on Destiny's growth from a child to young lady.
"Man, that's what I try to put into one song," he added. "Boy, it's amazing, man. She's so important to me and she always has been. They grow so fast and time flies man. Before you know it, you're looking at a little lady. She's my first kid, my first time watching a child become a teen and a little adult before my eyes. That's one of the most important things in my life. She is. I can't get away from talking about it. It's actually one of the first songs I recorded for this album." (XXL Mag)
A few days ago, Nasty Nas revealed his new album's release date.
""LIFE IS GOOD" - JULY 17th, 2012!!! #LIFEISGOOD717 http://tmblr.co/ZxeGrvKEULtA," Nas tweeted April 24th.
"#LIFEISGOOD717 #LIFEISGOOD717 #LIFEISGOOD717 #LIFEISGOOD717 #LIFEISGOOD717 #LIFEISGOOD717 #LIFEISGOOD717 #LIFEISGOOD717" (Nas' Twitter)
In March, he hinted at just how close to home the album would take listeners.
"It's been a long time, it's been years since I released a solo studio album, so this record is everything," he says. "This is everything that I've got to say--I guess you've got to live a little and you put that in your music, so it's coming from my life. ... A lot of the tracks have [come from ideas] where I would take an idea from one of the guys that I'm working with and try to put it together with a different sound that I had in my head, or with someone else. ... [I] just try to get people to collaborate who are not really used to working together and to get something different from me." (MTV)
Life Is Good is slated to drop Tuesday, July 17th.
