Amil Still Loves The Jigga Man, "I Wish I Could Talk To Jay-Z Because That Would Bring Closure"

Former Roc-A-Fella artist Amil has emerged back into the spotlight and revealed her estranged relationship with former labelmate and current hip-hop mogul Jay-Z.

Despite leaving the Roc over ten years ago, Amil claims she still needs closure.

In 2000, Amil's first and final album A.M.I.L - All Money Is Legal, led by the single "I Got That" with then Destiny's Child chief Beyonce, showed face to modest sales. Shortly after her debut, Amil left Roc-A-Fella Records robed in rumors that Jay-Z had dropped her due to internal fights and weight gain. "I haven't spoken to Jay in years but I really wish I could talk to him because that would just really bring closure to me. But he knows I love him," she says. "People think there was bad blood between us, but there never was any bad blood. Things happen and I wasn't ready for where my career was going at that time. It was really overwhelming." (VIBE)

Past rumors claimed Jay dropped Amil due to internal conflicts.

According to various sources, Jay-Z and Amil (former first lady of the Roc) dated from 1998 - 2000. Rumor has it Jay-z dropped her from Rocafella for getting in fights with his assistants and gaining weight, but neither has spoken on the split publicly. What is even more confusing is that Beyonce and Amil did a music video together called "Got That" which Jay-Z directed. (Destiny Child Rumours)

On 2001's "The Ruler's Back" Blueprint track, Jigga hints at dropping Amil from the Roc.

"There's a lot of rappers out there tryin' to sound like Jay-Z/I'll help you out, here's what you do/You gonna need a wide lens cause that's a ver' big shoe/And you got a couple of Beans and you don't have a Clue?/Your situation is Bleek, I'mma keep it Rell cause/F*ckin with me, you gotta drop Amil" ("The Ruler's Back")

Amil reportedly linked up with Hov around the late 1990's.

In 1997, she became part of the group Major Coins, through which she met rapper Jay-Z. At the time Jay-Z was recording his third album, Vol. 2 Hard Knock Life, and wanted one of the women in Major Coins to do vocals on the album. By chance, Amil accompanied the group member to the studio, and Jay-Z asked her to freestyle on the album. Soon after Major Coins broke up, Amil decided to follow a solo career. She became a part of the group associated with Jay-Z's label, Roc-A-Fella, joining the 1999 Hard Knock Life Tour. After the tour she appeared as a guest on albums for Mariah Carey, Jermaine Dupri, and Funkmaster Flex. Amil released her first solo project through Roc-A-Fella, All Money Is Legal. (All Music)
