"Rock Bands Are Way Cooler Than Rappers"

Odd Future's Tyler, the Creator is looking to expand his music horizons, wishing to put together a rock band as the year 2012 approaches.

Citing Odd Future as more of a punk-type band, Tyler believes rockers are more popping than hip-hop artists.
"I'm in a punk band. It's called Odd Future. But I really wanna be in a [rock] band. Rock bands are way cooler than rappers, in general," Tyler said in an interview. "When people make end of the year lists, I wanna be near Trash Talk and The Strokes or some sh*t instead of f*/cking rappers that's up-and-coming. I hate that sh*t. That sh*t sucks." (The FADER)
In August, R&B singer The-Dream said he wanted to form a rap-meets-rock group.
We decided to ask The-Dream about his future plans. He surprised us with a reply about a Hip-Hop infused Rock band that he plans to give birth to. He told HHNM exclusively: "I'm listening to music for a future band I haven't made yet. I have 53 records and a direction for a new NWA type Hip-Hop Rock band. Real messages, very political." Outside of rock talk, Tyler recently made headlines after getting arrested in Los Angeles.
Rapper Tyler, The Creator was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism on Thursday, following a show at a nightclub on the famed Sunset Strip, police said. The rapper, 20, whose real name is Tyler Gregory Okonma, was performing with his rap group Odd Future at the Roxy Theater Thursday night when an electric soundboard was destroyed, causing the venue's security team to call police. Following the arrest, Tyler exerted a rock star-esque as fans stormed the streets to support him.
The West Hollywood Sheriff's Dept. tells TMZ ... security staff had contacted deputies last night to report Tyler had "just destroyed an electric soundboard belonging to the venue." Cops say, "As [Tyler] was being escorted to a nearby radio car, the crowd exiting the venue became angry and rushed into the street, towards deputies." Cops called for backup and closed down Sunset Blvd for 30 minutes to regain control of the situation. Eventually the crowd dispersed and no one was injured. (TMZ)
