Ace Hood Discusses Daughter's Death, "I Know God Does Everything For A Reason"

Miami rapper Ace Hood has confirmed speculation surrounding the death of his daughter as heard on his "Hallucinations" record off the new Starvation mixtape.

Ace said he needed to take a musical route to get out his feelings on such a sensitive topic.
"That's my only way to actually release," Hood, sitting in the We The Best studios, said about his music. "That goes back to me saying this music is just more... This music is my getaway. That's why it means so much to me. The sh*t that I put out. Everything I put into this music, it's meaningful. These types of records is why people love my music. It was hard. It's hard for me to get in the booth and put forth what goes on in my personal life, it ain't easy, man. That's just my way of releasing. The way I know how to release it. Putting my message into something like 'Hallucinations'." (XXL Mag)
He also said having faith in God, there is no value in trying to understand why it happened.
"It definitely did in a way," he revealed. "I had to keep myself busy in order to try to... It's still fresh in my mind. I'm a Christian, man. I grew up with a family and I was raised that way. I know how to cope with these types of things. I know God does everything for a reason. I truly believe that. If I didn't believe that I would handle things differently than what I did. Everything happens for a reason. Like they say: 'you're in a better place.'" (XXL Mag)
This week, Hood talked to SOHH about the meaning behind Starvation, specifically its emphasis on his personal life.
"I've been dealing with a lot of personal things and people see the glamor and the fame, the jewelry and traveling, but there's things that go on behind the scenes that people don't know about. So now you're going to get to understand Ace Hood a lot more as a person, as a human being. So it's definitely more personal records on Starvation. With the cover, I wanted to do something totally unexpected. I wanted to get people and the fans talking. I envisioned it as me doing something alongside controversial and getting noticed. I wanted to do something different than the typical Ace Hood may be used to seeing. I felt like that represented starvation. It took me a while because I didn't initially know what would represent it." (SOHH Guest Star)
The Florida rapper mentions his daughter's passing at the start of "Hallucinations."
"Uhh/Feeling like I done been crucified/Haven't been the same since my daughter died/Paranormal flourished in my state of mind/Kind of hard for me to orchestrate a f*ckin' rhyme/Last night I took some painkillers/And I became friends with a death dealer." ("Hallucinations")
