Dr. Dre Kills 2Pac Hologram Tour Hype, "I Want To Get Rid Of All The Rumors Out There"

Aftermath Records boss Dr. Dre recently thanked fans for their support of his Coachella performance a couple weeks ago and killed hype surrounding intentions to start a Tupac Shakur hologram tour.

While the tour could happen, the Doc made sure to let fans know the Pac hologram was purely intended for Coachella.
"What up, it's Doc Dre, backstage, Coachella, 2012 and I want to thank everybody out there for all the love and support," Dre said in an interview. "As you know, we had a hologram of Tupac Shakur show up as a part of our show. I want to thank a couple of companies out there that made my idea come to life. I want to say what's up to AV Concepts which actually projected the hologram. I want to say what's up to Digital Domain for actually putting the image together. They did an incredible job -- it was strictly for Coachella, get it right. I want to get rid of all the rumors out there. This was not done for a tour. If a tour happens, we'll see. This was done strictly for Coachella 2012, baby, just for you." (Interscope Geffen)
Over the weekend, "King of the South" T.I. called Pac's hologram set a memorable hip-hop moment.
"I think it adds to the experience of a show, man. I think it's technology used to benefit the consumer when they come to a concert," T.I. said in an interview with DJ Whoo Kid. "Basically, it was an 'Oh sh*t' moment. .... I'm really thinking, 'Wait a minute - if I could get this same technology to perform in three cities at one time, then that's another stream of revenue!' I could do six shows a night in six different places." (Shade 45)
Despite countless co-signs, former Death Row Records owner Suge Knight expressed his issues with the hologram last week.
Suge Knight is FURIOUS over the look of 2Pac's hologram at Coachella ... telling TMZ the people who created it screwed up one major detail. The rapper was out in Los Angeles last night when he pointed out that the 3D hologram used to bring 2Pac to life on stage was missing the rapper's famous Death Row Records chain. Knight told us, "At the end of the day, how you gonna take the Death Row chain off Pac? That's like taking the Raiders symbol off the Raiders." (TMZ)
Prior to Suge's comments, Dre spoke about putting together the Coachella performance.
While nothing has been made official, Dre said, "I think everybody's in love with it right now. We're having fun." The rapper-producer noted that the current technology only allows for flat projections that appear three-dimensional from the front, but he said he's "working on some new and different things for the future." He also mentioned how he hopes other artists will be able to bring out their favorites in hologram form: "Hopefully we can see Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye . . . Let's see what happens." Following the success of the performance, there's been plenty of talk about the possibility of taking the Tupac hologram on tour. (Rolling Stone)
