Master P Salutes Mystikal's Cash Money Deal, "He Congratulated Me On The Signing & Everything"

Despite speculated bad blood between No Limit Records' Master P and Cash Money's Birdman, rapper Mystikal said he received his former boss' congratulatory props upon recently landing a deal with YMCMB.

Mystikal, who once called No Limit his home in the 1990's, compared his former label to Cash Money.

"The times are different, first of all. It's like oranges and apples. The formula is still the same. 'It's the Take Over The World' formula and 'Don't Give A F*ck.' Show them what it is, don't tell them. It's just on another level. This is a new day and a new time for real," Mystikal said in an interview. "[Am I still cool with Master P?] Yeah. I talked to him not too long ago. He congratulated me on the signing and everything, man. Gave me a couple of pointers and keep your head up and get that money. That's how that conversation went." The rapper's former labelmate Silkk the Shocker gave his thoughts on the move plus the Cash Money/No Limit alleged war.

"Yeah. I never thought it was a problem. I'm on [Master] P's side and he never explained [how his beef with Birdman started]. I'm sure he maybe had like a few words about [Birdman] ... but they grew up together, so I don't know how that [relationship between them] was. But as far as the artists on the labels amongst each other, I don't think it ever was a problem," Silk added. "I liked what Cash Money was doing. I always thought everybody was talented. I think people got caught up into the fact that we're from the same city. But I gave everybody props and respect. If any brother is getting they money and making it happen, then that's what it is." According to reports, Mystikal engaged in numerous feuds with Cash Money at the start of his career.

Mystikal's debut album, Mystikal, was released on New Orleans-based independent record label Big Boy Records in 1994. He found himself in conflict with fellow New Orleans rappers signed to Cash Money Records including U.N.L.V., Lil Wayne and B.G.. They dissed him on tracks like "Drag 'Em in Tha River" by U.N.L.V. and "F*ck Big Boy" by The B.G.'z. He struck back with the diss "Beware" which was on his sophomore effort Mind of Mystikal. Mystikal's sister, Michelle Tyler, who sang the chorus on "Not That N*gga" songs "Dedicated To Michelle Tyler", "Murderer", "Murder 2", "Shine" and "Murder III" on the Mind of Mystikal, Unpredictable and Let's Get Ready albums, respectively, refer to Mystikal's sister's murder. Around mid-March, the rapper talked about what fans could expect from his Cash Money debut.

"I'm telling you, this album is gonna be so well worth the wait, Sway, believe that," Mystikal told MTV News' Sway Calloway. The truth is, even if it wasn't "worth the wait," would a rapper really say otherwise? Mystikal acknowledged that his boasts may seem cliché, but that "those who know who I am know that I mean that." On Original, fans can expect even more collaborations from Cash Money/Young Money artists. "Busta [Rhymes] was one of the first artists I worked with when I first came home," he said. "Busta came out there, came all the way to Baton Rouge. I'm talking about we got it in." What about Drake? "No, that's coming," Mystikal promised. (MTV)
