"I [Wound] Up Paying More Money To Baby Mommas Than What Some Of My Rap Brothers & Sistren Make"

Rap veteran Nas recently opened up on his publicized child support money woes and just how much of an impact the divorce from R&B singer Kelis had on his wallet.

According to Nas, he ended up dishing more money in child support than some of his fellow rappers' annual income.
?"Life is crazy," the famously private MC said. "I [wound] up paying more money to baby mommas than what some of my rap brothers and sistren make." At the time, several outlets reported that Kelis was seeking about $45,000 a month in child and spousal support from the father of two, daughter Destiny from a previous relationship and son Knight with the "Bossy" singer. The figure was formally reduced last year by a court to a $25,000 month, but the scrutiny left Nas scarred. "I've always been away from too much limelight and that right there put me in your -- no one's exempt from people probing into your life once you get into the game," he conceded. "So [the divorce] put a lot of my business out there, man. People weren't thinking I was making that kind of money, and now they knew." (MTV)
Last May, Kelis spoke on her divorce from the hip-hop mogul.
"I'm not a big regret person. I've been divorced, and I can still say I don't regret it," she said in an interview. "I'm a big believer that if a bad situation happens, it is a lesson that needs to be learned, just once. My mom told us that when we hit our thirties we'd feel our most beautiful and sexy and smart, and I really do feel like that." (Showbiz Spy)
In 2010, Nas talked about once again being a bachelor.
"Nope, nope, nope," Nas told Tim Westwood when asked if he wanted to comment on his personal life. "I never, you know, I never was that kind of dude, you know what I mean? It took me by surprise that today's game, though, no matter who you are, you can wind up out there. Your business be out there. That's just the way it is. I don't know what to do about that. You can't control it, it is what it is. I wish everybody the best, I wish the best for everybody. I ain't tripping, life is life. I love life. You live and learn. You just keep growing. Yeah. It's tough bruh, but yo, I dive in. I goes in. I still think marriage is a beautiful thing, it's a beautiful thing, you just gotta be strong to weather the ups and downs. I think it's a good thing to marry -- I had great hopes. I thought we were going to go through it big, but two people are not, we gotta become one mind in a way. Two people think about life different, they see things different and then you just grow in different directions but I had a great time. Shout-out to my son Knight, he'll be one tomorrow." Last year, Nas won a legal victory allowing his child support payments to become reduced.
Nas just had his child and spousal support obligations sliced in half, but he still has to pay ex-wife Kelis a pretty penny ... TMZ has learned. According to legal docs filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Nas must now pay a tad over $5,000 a month in childsupport and $20,000 a month in spousal support. It sounds like a lot, but Nas was paying twice that until he convinced the judge the bad economy has even hit the rap biz hard. So this month, Nas pockets an extra $25k for himself. (TMZ)
