British street art magazine VNA traveled to Amsterdam to pay a visit to Chaz and Bob, the duo who make up the art collective The London Police. The guys discuss moving to Amsterdam in the late-’90s, a time and place that was terrific for young, aspiring artists, with an environment in which one could “get away with anything.” They also trace the evolution of their iconic Lad figure, something that started with rudimentary sketches and eventually blossomed into a mission to draw the Lad’s likeness everywhere, just because it made them laugh. And though it’s a simply illustrated character, Chaz believes the different iterations take on distinct personalities of their own. He ultimately expresses gratitude for his pen and ink creation, as it’s allowed him to travel the world.
